Advent Joy

Light the Advent candle three, think of joyful harmony

Angels singing “Peace on Earth”, at the Blessed Saviour’s birth.

Candle, candle burning bright, shining in the darkest night

Candle, candle burning bright, fill our hearts with Christmas light.

It is illegal to have real candles on your tree in Australia, as in the past they caused many house fires, with hot weather, highly flammable pine, and naked flames.  We have electric “candles” on our tree and many Norwegian decorations from my husband’s side of the family.  The straw decorations such as the angel, I made at a holiday workshop when I was a teenager.   I’m hoping I remember how to make them now they are getting a little worse for wear, and the boys are almost old enough to tackle some of the simpler ones themselves.  There can be such joy in handmade and well loved items from childhood, and such a joy seeing memories created again for or by your own children.

Wishing you Joy this Avent week.

I would love to learn how to make straw ornaments. Someday I’ll find a workshop!

I’m enjoying reading your Advent verses each Sunday. Different from ours (which I am also posting), and just as lovely.

    Happy Advent!

If you do make more of the straw ornaments, could you post how you do it? They are really lovely!
